Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to tighten the eyelids, it is used to correct drooping eyelids (upper eyelid lift). Excess skin, fat and muscle tissue are removed or repositioned. The procedure can be performed for both aesthetic (rejuvenated appearance) and functional reasons (improve visual field).

The majority of eyelid lifts involve the correction of the so-called drooping eyelids. In this procedure, overhanging skin on the upper eyelids is surgically removed. Medical eyelid surgery for eyelid misalignments

Medical eyelid surgery is used for the misalignment of the eyelids. The lower eyelid is often affected. There can be an inward turn (“entropion“) or an outward turn (“ectropion“). Both eyelid misalignments can damage the eye and should therefore be corrected surgically. These eyelid misalignments can occur on one or both sides. Entropion (inward turn of the eyelid)

What is the surgical procedure?

In eyelid lifting, excess skin on the eyelids is surgically removed. Tightening of the upper eyelids, also known as blepharoplasty, does not require general anesthesia. The hailstone manifests itself as a nodular swelling that presses unpleasantly on the eye. A very pronounced hailstone even impairs vision. As a rule, a hailstone is treated with ointment and disappears on its own. If it is too large or stubbornly persists over a long period of time, surgical intervention to remove the hailstone is advisable.

What can I do to avoid a hailstone?

For those who suffer from hailstones (chalazion) more often, we recommend daily eyelid rim hygiene in two steps as a preventive measure:

Heat treatment:Gently warm the eyelid with a warm washcloth, warm compresses or special thermal glasses. The congested secretion in the meibomian glands will liquefy with heat and the pores will be easier to clean.
Eyelid edge massage and eyelid cleansing:The liquid secretion is carefully massaged out (with a damp cotton swab). To do this, massage the upper eyelid 5 to 10 times from top to bottom, each time on the entire width of the eyelid. Then massage 5 to 10 times on the lower eyelid from bottom to top, also on the entire width of the eyelid. To finish, clean the edges of the eyelids with a damp cotton pad by stroking the eyelid from the outside to the inside. Use warm, previously boiled tap water or special care solutions.
