Cataract surgery procedure
for Sanoculus

On the day of the operation, you will be warmly welcomed and prepared for the procedure with the administration of eye drops. Cataract surgery is a fast, safe and painless routine procedure that is performed on an outpatient basis and takes a maximum of 30 minutes . After the procedure, you can relax in the relaxation room and leave the eye center again.

Detailed surgical procedure in our Sanoculus Eye Centers in Spandau and Elsterplatz:

  1. The operation begins with disinfection and local anesthesia so that you do not experience any pain during the procedure.
  2. We use ultrasound or a nanolaser to remove the clouded lens.
This procedure is particularly gentle on the eye and guarantees maximum precision and safety.
  3. Finally, your new artificial lens is inserted into your eye.
You will leave our ophthalmology center with an eye bandage or an eye patch, which can be removed the next day at the first follow-up check.

Since the procedure restricts the ability to drive, it is recommended to return with a companion or public transport after cataract surgery. A slight foreign body sensation after surgery is completely normal. However, please contact us if you have any problems.

Cataract surgery –
aftercare and behavior afterwards

You can resume your daily activities no later than 24 hours after the operation , as long as you rest your eyes for a few more days. Walks and light housework are possible – you should refrain from PC work and reading for another two days.

In addition to the check-up appointments in our practice, you will also use antibiotic eye drops to support healing.

  • You should refrain from driving and sporting activities for about two weeks after cataract surgery.
  • After around six to eight weeks, the wound should have healed to such an extent that you can go about your everyday life as you did before the operation.

Frequently asked questions about cataract surgery

In the past, cataract surgery only took place when the cataract was already very advanced. In the meantime, the extent to which you feel impaired by the clouding of the lens is decisive. Therefore, the timing of the procedure is very individual and depends on one’s own visual needs. Important note: If you are dependent on driving motor vehicles at work or in your private life, you must be able to prove a visual acuity of at least 50%. Then the cataract surgery should be planned in good time .

Thanks to local anesthesia , the procedure is usually painless and takes only about 15-30 minutes. Even after eye surgery, there is usually no pain because the operation only minimally interferes with the body’s events.

In the first 48 hours after the operation, the eye and brain first have to get used to the new visual and light situation, which is why vision in the first few days is actually somewhat worse and also blurrier than before the operation. Over time, however, you will see better and better and after about four weeks , the desired result will be achieved.

If the cataract deteriorates only slowly, the visual impairment can be compensated for for a while with glasses or contact lenses. However, if vision is already severely impaired or deteriorating rapidly, cataract surgery is the most sensible decision – unfortunately, cataracts cannot be treated with medication.

We try to keep waiting times as short as possible. Currently, you can expect 4–6 weeks. There are also always opportunities to get a faster appointment by cancelling other patients at short notice. If the waiting time is too long, we add extra surgery days in our Sanoculus Eye Centers.

Let our specialists for cataract surgery advise you in a personal consultation . We discuss the medical requirements of the eye and your wishes. When choosing an artificial lens, the quality and the possibilities for correcting refractive error are always our top priority. Monofocal lens: The aspherical lens design allows improved image quality to be achieved. Aspherical lenses provide optimized focusing of light rays on the retina. The advantage is better vision in general and also optimized contrast vision in less good lighting conditions. Multifocal lenses: Multifocal lenses offer the possibility to see well in the distance, near and in the intermediate area without glasses. As part of cataract surgery, the multifocal lenses are implanted – after the operation, you are independent of the glasses. Toric lenses: In addition to nearsightedness or farsightedness, toric lenses can also correct existing astigmatism. We offer toric lenses in multifocal and monofocal variants.
